The Great Safari Circuit
This 13-day nortern circuit safari tour covers all the major highlights of Tanzania. As well as much game spotting, you will have many opportunities for authentic cultural encounters with local and indigenous communities.
Starting with the landscape, this tour couldn’t offer much more natural beauty or diversity of topography. Lake Manyara is sparkling and beautiful, the Lake Natron area is home to the Ngare Sero River, where you will find a veritable oasis at the river source, and the Ngorongoro Crater is vast, plummeting, and completely breathtaking. At virtually every turn on this tour, you will be faced with a arid, austere bushland or a body of water, lush green vegetation or a vast open plain, a clear, dewy sunrise or a burning sunset.
The animals you will encounter are equally awe-inspiring! At Tarangire you can find elephants in vast herds, crossing the landscape dotted with majestic baobab trees. At Ngorongoro, the crater walls limit migration, and the concentration of game, including the “Big Five”, is truly a wonder to behold. The Serengeti is the world’s wildlife sanctuary – it is here that the daily dramas of birth, death, hunt and migration play out in all their glory.
The third element which makes this tour so special is, of course, the people. You will have many genuine cultural encounters throughout this trip. The fishermen of Lake Victoria will educate you with their traditional fishing methods, and delight you with their traditional fishing songs. The people of the Datoga tribe still dress in treated goatskins and intricate decorations. The Hadzabe Bushmen, who you will meet at Eyasi, are the last tribe to still speak in clicking – the language of the continent’s first human inhabitants. These unique cultural opportunities are not to be missed.
Throughout your trip, you will have the chance to get out of your safari vehicle and explore Tanzania on foot – the best way to really introduce your senses to the real Tanzania. The best example of this is perhaps your river hike up the Ngare Sero River, where, weather permitting, you can swim and cool down at the cascading waterfalls of river source.
