Wildlife, culture and authenticity
For something totally unique, for an authentic Tanzanian experience, for something off the beaten track, this tour is for you. From reclusive bushmen living in harmony with nature to cascading waterfalls, riverside walks and a whole host of wild animals to spot, this safari is exciting and inspiring from first to last. After your initial overnight in Arusha, taking in the fresh air and enjoying the lovely countryside surrounds, you will start your safari in earnest at the wonderful Lake Manyara. This beautiful national park is recognised first for its stunning natural beauty, and second for its unusual tree-climbing lions.
From the sparkling Lake Manyara you will head to the alkaline waters of Lake Natron. Driving via the Engaruka ruins, you will see many fascinating sights en route, such as Masai villages, termite mounds, bee boxes, plus gazelle, giraffe, zebra and baboons! Various birds such as vultures, ostrich, starlings, Cory bustards and kites can also be seen. You will take a guided walk around Lake Natron and take in the thousands of flamingos that gather there to feed on the sodium carbonate, algae and zooplankton present in the water. If desired, you can walk up the Ngare Sero River to the source, where you will find a veritable paradise – weather permitting, you can even swim in the river and cool down under the cascading waterfalls!
The Serengeti will be your next stop. Here, you can spot wildebeest, lion, elephant, giraffe, zebra, monkey, baboons, hippos, rhinos, various antelopes and many, many species of bird. After two days here, you will truly come to realise just why this vast national park is so very famous.
At Ngorongoro, you will be awe-inspired by the sheer size and lush, green beauty of the Ngorongoro Crater – a ancient crater with 2000ft high walls created from a collapsed volcano. The sheer concentration of animals here is astounding – you will marvel at the wildlife you see. A game drive on the crater bottom, complete with picnic lunch, is really unbeatable, and with a bit of luck, the “Big Five” can be spotted on just one game drive. You will also take an exciting guided walk on the crater rim.
From Ngorongoro you proceed to Lake Eyasi, home to the Hadzabe Bushmen – a small indigenous tribe who completely at harmony with nature. There is much to learn from these fascinating tribes people about the surrounding flora and fauna. In a very remote area surrounding Lake Eyasi live the semi-nomadic Datoga tribe, who will impress you with their stunning and colourful attire. After all your cultural encounters, you will enjoy a beautiful sunset at the shores of the lake.
At Tarangire, you will marvel at the huge baobab trees which pepper the landscape, dwarfing the animals beneath them. There are thousands of elephants resident in this national park, along with lion, leopard, cheetah and many other animals.
