The North in Six Days
In just six days you will take in four of Tanzania’s most wonderful northern circuit national parks and conservation areas – the glittering Lake Manyara, the endless Serengeti, the awesome Ngorongoro Crater, and the majestic Tarangire.Wildlife will abound on this northern circuit tour. At Lake Manyara, as well as taking in the stunning natural beauty, you can spot buffalo, impala, giraffe, elephant, hippo and more. Serengeti is famous for big cats and the “Big Five”, and your time here can be spend spotting both, along with giraffe, zebra, monkey, baboon, hippo, wildebeest, antelope and myriad bird species. A visit to Ngorongoro is always a dazzling experience – from the plummeting 2000ft high walls to the lush vegetation, to the concentration of wild animals and the sheer size of the crater. Lastly, at Tarangire, the majestic baobab trees which dot the landscape so stoically will delight and amaze, as you watch the wild creatures which are dwarfed beneath them. It is here that you will also take a guided walk at the Tarangire park boundaries, if desired.
This tour isn’t all about wildlife, however. This tour also includes a visit to the Olduvai Gorge Museum – dedicated to the work of famous anthropologists Louis and Mary Leakey. The Leakeys made many significant discoveries at the Olduvai Gorge, contributing to the increasingly accepted view that Africa is the “Cradle of Mankind”. A whole host of fascinating artefacts are on display at the museum, including a cast of actual footprints made by “Lucy”, our early human ancestor who walked the earth 3.6 million years ago.
A Pool with a View
Throughout this 6-day safari you will overnight in comfortable and luxurious lodges, where you will always get a good night’s sleep and the surrounding will invariably be beautiful. At Lake Manyara, any stay at the Lake Manyara Serena Lodge is special. With arguably the best pool in Tanzania, with a vanishing horizon seemingly disappearing into the wilderness below, and the level of service you would expect from any Serena establishment, you’ll feel well-rested and looked after at this lodge. At the Serengeti you will spend two fabulous nights at the Mapito Tented Camp. A beacon of comfort and hospitality in the heart of the wilderness, this luxury camp offers an authentic safari experience (expect to hear lions roaring as you nod off at night) without compromising on hospitality or comfort.
The Ngorongoro Crater has to be seen to be believed, and staying at the Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge, you’ll certainly see one of the best, if not the best, crater views in Tanzania – the blazing sun setting over the crater. This lodge’s position on the western side of the rim offers the most stunning sunset views, whether you’re enjoying them from the lobby, the restaurant or your own guest bedroom.
The Tarangire Safari Lodge evokes a sense of child-like excitement, with the canvas walls and zip-up doors of the tents putting one in mind of some safari-adventure of old. Yet luxurious touches such as delicious breakfast buffets, sumptuous international dishes, an outdoor pool and a well-stocked bar remind you that you are still in the lap of luxury.
