There's nothing quite like experiencing the sights and sounds of Africa from a tented camp, and no tented camp is quite like Mapito. Mapito means the “tracking of animals” in Swahili and, with this camp's prime location in the path of the annual Great Migration, guests here truly do feel they're on a safari adventure from a bygone era.Located at Ikoma, just beyond the boundary of the Serengeti National Park, Mapito is tucked away in a clearing, surrounded by shady acacia trees. Each insect-proof tent is airy and spacious and full equipped with en suite bathroom facilities (flush toilet, basins and hot shower) and a delightful private veranda. Your tent will be furnished with chairs, tables, a luggage rack, large beds with mosquito netting and kerosene lamps. Solar electricity is also used to light the tents.
Sitting on one of the comfortable chairs after a hot shower, with a cool drink in your hand, you can while away the evenings listening to the sounds of the wildlife all around you. If you're feeling sociable, or simply want to listen to other people's safari tales, you can join your fellow guests and hosts around the nightly camp fire. Retiring to bed, you'll sink into a deep sleep serenaded by the roar of a lion or the laugh of a hyena, and on cooler nights you'll even find a hot water bottle tucked between your sheets.
Meals at Mapito are taken in the mess tent or on the adjacent veranda. The chefs will be happy to work out a full course menu taking into consideration your favourites, using fresh fruit and vegetables. Dietary requirements will, of course, be taken into full consideration.

Reviews & Testimonials of Mapito Camp Serengeti
"Wonderful place to stay"
This place was simply wonderful. The hospitality was excellent, the tent gorgeous and the food tasty. I particularly liked that our shower was outside the back of the tent - surrounded by a stone wall for privacy but open to the sky above- very romantic. I would highly recommend this place to others.travelmax76 from Manchester, United Kingdom
"Lovely Place"
stayed 2 nights here in 2 tents. the tents are very comfortable with exilerating outdoor showers! (surrounded by a stone wall) .The beds are really comfortable and the arrangement of the tent makes it very spacious. There are no plug sockets in the tents and solar power lighting so sometimes it has problems (as the previous reviewer stated), but torches are provided for night time and thiss is no different to any other wilderness camp so i don't really see it as a difficulty. Batteries can be charged inthe restaurant area. The restaurant tent is very cosy and the food was the best we had throughout our trip-a set menu but delicious.
Overall a very pleasing experience and i would definately stay here again.
