Lake Manyara National Park, Tanzania

We feel that Lake Manyara is the perfect introduction to the beautiful country of Tanzania, which is why so many of our safari programs start there.  In a way it is a microcosm of everything Tanzania has to offer – natural beauty, amazing wild creatures, and excitement.

The lake itself, shallow and alkaline, takes up most of this 325 square kilometre national park.  Claimed to be the loveliest in East Africa by one Ernest Hemingway, the lake itself takes up most of the 325 square kilometre national park.  With its shallow, alkaline waters, the lake attracts a great number of flamingo.  Other bird species such as eagle, king-fisher, pelican, stork, bee-eater and many more resident and migratory species can be spotted here amongst the diverse terrain of forest, acacia woodland and swamp – it truly is a bird-watchers paradise.

Other wildlife which can be spotted on game drives include monkeys, mongoose, jackals, warthog, hippo, hyena, zebra, giraffe, elephant and impala, along with various other antelope species.  It is also possible to spot black rhino and leopard, and really fortunate safari-goers might even spot one of the famous Manyara tree-climbing lions.
