The Marangu route is one of the most popular routes to the summit of Kilimanjaro.  Though it is possible to complete this climb in 5 days, we would always recommend taking the extra acclimatisation day, making this an enjoyable and rewarding hike with a greatly increased chance of reaching the summit.  This route also allows hikers the (relative) luxury of sleeping in mountain huts along the entire route.

One of the quieter routes up Kilimanjaro, Rongai is suffused with a sense of true adventure, exploration and pristine wilderness.  This route is completed in 6 days, and offers a fairly different perspective of the mountain than the other routes, approaching it from the north.  On this route, accommodation is exclusively camping, or in a mixture of camping and mountain huts.

For those who have the time, a sense of adventure and are prepared for a tougher hike, the Machame route offers stunning, almost picture-book scenery along the way.  Accommodation is in tents throughout.  With the highly-recommended extra acclimatisation day, making this a 7-day hike, this route is particularly rewarding.  However, this route can also be completed in 6 days.
