Location: Mount Kenya

Located in the primeval forests of the magnificent, 5199 metre tall Mount Kenya, the Mount Kenya Serena Lodge is the cool and peaceful paragon of tranquillity.  This beautiful log-timbered lodge sits on stilts above the forest canopy and is reached via a drawbridge.  It has a viewing deck over a watering hole and saltlick, which is a particular attraction for buffalo and elephant, and features a tunnel with a photographic hide, providing an unmatchable opportunity for an up-close view of an African watering hole.  All in all, this lodge is the ideal spot for intimate game viewing.

In true Serena luxury style, all 41 timbered, cabin-style guest rooms feature private balconies overlooking the watering hole, en suite bathroom facilities, wifi connectivity, 24 hour room service, complimentary mineral water and toiletries, bathrobe and slippers, hairdryers and even a hot water bottle.

The central dining room sits at tree level, offering stunning views over the forest canopy as you enjoy your full breakfast, cooked or continental, or an array of international dishes over dinner.  All fresh produce is sourced locally where possible.  Fine wines are always on offer, along with both local and imported spirits and beers. Only the finest Kenyan coffee and tea is served.

Other activities and highlights include;

Reviews & Testimonials of Mount Kenya Serena Mountain Lodge

"One of the truly special places"

There's something about the Serena Mountain Lodge that makes it one of the truly special places of Kenya. There's not much (anything?) really to do there but that's a blessing and not a curse. It's a quirky place made of sticks that creeks when you walk and the rooms are comfortable but nothing extremely luxurious but sitting on the porch watching the wateringhole, sipping tea, reading and playing cards with my husband was one of our most relaxing weekends ever. The walking safari we took was a nice way to spend the morning and the water bottles in the bed to warm you at night was delicious. We really love this place and already are looking forward to going back!

"A very unique lodge"

This is a very unique lodge situated in lush, peaceful surroundings. For urban dwellers like me, I was startled by the peace and silence of nature. It is helpful to note that the rooms are quite small and have the outdoorsy scent of summer camp. The wall between you and your neighbors are very thin.

There are amazing views from your balcony, the roof and the basement of a watering hole for the animals. I found it very relaxing just to stare outside and watch for animals. The food was good for the most part and the service was excellent. You can submit your name and desired animal on an overnight watch list and they will wake you up in case the animal shows up while you are sleeping.

If you want peace and quiet, you've found it here at this lodge!

"Tree house in the rain forest- wonderful"

the lodge is beautiful- like a tree house made of wood, small but cosy rooms, the occasional power cuts just add to the atmosphere. The restaurant is small which is good because only the starters and desserts are in buffet form, everything else is cooked to order.

We did not realise how cold it could be in August and had to buy an overpriced fleece from the shop to keep warm. However, there is a fireplace in the bar and they provide hot water bottles for the night. There is a fantastic blanket in the drawer in the room which keeps you warm when you sit out on your balcony to watch the waterhole.

There were lots of animals at the waterhole, especially elephants.
During dinner you can choose from a list for which animals you want to be woken up for. Unfortunately the leopard wasn't thirsty during our visit. The nature walk with Benson was brilliant. We learned so much about Kenya, the animals and the climate challenges. Remember to bring long trousers and trainers as there are quite aggressive ants out there.

We had some loud Americans in the group which probably scared away most of the animals around (sorry guys), but we did come face to face to a buffalo (who must have been hard of hearing) which got the adrenaline pumping. We walked through the bush looking and listening out for animals when, all of a sudden, there was a tea break! We sat on tree ends and were served tea with rum which was delightful! One night in the lodge is probably just right as there is nothing else to do other than observing the watering hole.

"wonderful peaceful hotel with amazing views"

Spent one night here during a Kenyan safari holiday. The hotel itself has wooden cladding on the outside and the insides are varnished wood giving it a rustic feel. The rooms are quite small but this is very unimportant because ....... each room has a balcony that looks out over the watering hole in front of the hotel.

There is a cushioned bench on the balcony so that you can spend as much time as you like observing what happens around the water. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the food was some of the best that we had while in Kenya. The choice was good and the quality was also good.

We couldnt take our eyes off the waterhole and within 20 minutes of going out onto the balcony we saw elephant, water buck, warthogs, buffalo and several different types of birds. There is also the opportunity to chose the animals that you want to see at the water hole and get woke n up during the night if they turn up. Was sad to only spend one night here and wished to stay longer.
