Set out in six charming double-bedded rondavels, situated right on the beautiful lake shore, is Lake Victoria's Mfangano Island Camp.  With spectacular vistas across the lake, the sounds of birds singing in the trees and the caress of a cool shoreline breeze, this camp is the most divine place to relax after a long week on safari, or to simply escape real life for a few days.

All rooms, carefully constructed from banana thatch and natural clay, offer stunning lake views.  They feature en suite bathrooms with bath and shower, basins and flush toilet, and all combine traditional ethnic décor with luxurious touches like four-poster beds and private verandas.

Cuisine at Mfangano is simple, fresh and superb.  Your dish will be the fresh catch of the day, served with fresh salad, crusty bread and, should you desire, a chilled glass of wine.  Meals will be served in the cozy dining room which, along with the sitting room, is open-sided for an uninterrupted view of the lake shore.

Mfangano is the ultimate place to unwind, feel the breeze, watch dhows sail by and marvel at cormorants diving for fish and stretching their vast wings under the sun.  If, however, you're feeling more energetic, you can take a boat ride on Lake Victoria, fish with full equipment, go on a bird-watching trail or lake excursion, try a sundowner cruise, visit a nearby Luo village or even try water-skiing in the lake.  Swimming is, of course, also an option, either in the lake itself or in a small, natural stone swimming pool with lake view.
