Location: Samburu

With the Ewaso Ngiro river on one side, rugged expansive wilderness on the other four, Larsens camp is an oasis of luxury in the arid Samburu National Reserve.  With just twenty luxury tents in a secluded location, this camp is at once exclusive and hospitable.

Each free-standing tent is constructed in the highest degree of quality, from the neutral soft furnishings to the reproduction antique pieces to the private veranda with delightful river views. Each morning your airy and spacious tent with fill with sunlight, alerting you the start of another African adventure.  The tents' en suite bathrooms are stocked with luxury Molton Brown toiletries and equipped with flush toilet and 24 hour hot water.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner at Larsens are all a la carte, with the locations varying from day to day.  You might take breakfast under the shade of a fig tree, lunch on the deck overlooking the river, and dinner on the tree deck with waterhole view.

Each evening, guests enjoy sundowner drinks on the tree deck or around the camp fire, and later on a nightcap can be enjoyed in the comfort of Larsens bar.  If you feel peckish, the chef can prepare you a snack at any time of day.  Picnic lunches can be arranged for longer day excursions.

At Larsens you can take a game drive with an experienced and knowledgeable guide, try a bird walk with a resident naturalist, eat breakfast with champagne in the bush, or enjoy sunset cocktails on the river bank.

Reviews & Testimonials of Larsens Camp

"Larsens is the way to go in Samburu"

rsens Tented Camp – WOW! It’s obviously been redone and it’s amazing. Very modern and service oriented. It’s in a lovely location, right on the river. They have a very nice pool area, with a hot tub even, though it gets so hot there, not sure you’d want to use it!

Accomodations:
Spacious tents, decorated very nicely and with an awesome, clean, modern bathroom (hair dryer included). Electricity was on 24-7, so you weren’t in the dark if you had to use the bathroom middle of the night. The rooms also came with safe-deposit box, robes and slippers! The slippers were great! I say this because you don’t always want to walk around in your socks or bare feet on the floor, and none of the other tented camps we visited had them. They were great to have! There was also a ceiling fan, which was nice, because Samburu can get quite hot! All of the tents were right by the river, so you had a great view just outside your tent. Sometimes there were animals across the river, one evening we saw an elephant.

Dining:
Tea or coffee served to your tent at wake-up call. Breakfast and lunch were served outside, under the trees, by the river. Dinner was served by candlelight in the main tent. All of the meals were 3 to 5 course, a la carte, served on silver platters. Usually you had the choice between a few different selections. Delicious and luxurious!

Game Drives:
Larsens did not provide our game drives because we booked through another company. However, all of the game drives started around 6:30am went to approx 9:00, and then an evening game drive at around 4:00 – 6:00/6:30. Lots of animals to see in Samburu. We saw lions, cheetahs, and even a leopard with a cub. Also, elephants, giraffes and several types of gazelles.

Larsens Tented Camp is a must if you visit Samburu. Great, friendly, personable service, beautiful location, delicious food, lovely, clean and newly renovated tents. Overall, a very luxurious experience. I love camping like this!!

"Amazing service and atmosphere!!!"

Great Hospitality, lots of wildlife and clean wonderful rooms. The dinning staff have lots of charisma and will charm you. The monkeys running over the tent tops and the sound of the wild animals while sleeping are amazing and make you feel closer to mother nature. This is our favorite location of 11 places lodges/camps in Kenya & Tanzania where we stayed. The hot choclate service in the morning served as your wakeup call and was wonderful!!! Enjoy but watch out for the crocs and monkeys!!!

"Amazing place"

Larsens Tent camp is absolutely amazing. The staff is superb and the quality of service is excellent. Mike, Jeremy, Gabriel, Daniel, Joy and all the other staff members make it a true luxury experience. From the moment you arrive you are treated like family, as a solo traveler I felt very welcomed by everyone there. If you are looking for a true African safari experience, this is the place!
