Keekorok Lodge

Location: Masai Mara

The Keekorok Lodge was the first lodge to be built in the area, but has been recently rennovated.  It is strategically located in the direct path of the Great Migration, and is generally surrounded by crowds of herbivores from August to November.

The Keekorok Lodge offers standard guest rooms as well as 9 superior rooms and 4 suites.  The accommodation is set out in bungalows, single storey blocks and shaded chalets, all of which have been constructed using indigenous materials such as cedar wood and pink and grey sandstone - the colours look truly stunning against the ground's well-kept lawns.  All rooms have en suite bathrooms, and the chalets have private verandas.  The bungalows have verandas shared by the other guests in the bungalow.  Tastefully decorated with the finest linens and furniture, the bedrooms provide calming views of the plains and distant hills.

The lodge features a swimming pool with sundeck, a restaurant and a bar. The lodge's open-sided dining room provides stunning views of the Mara.  A stream flowing in front of the lodge was dammed in 1972, and is now an established lake which attracts hippos.  There are extensive walkways over the hippo pool, are a key feature allowing for viewing directly into the game park.

Early morning and evening game drives can be arranged at the lodge. Of course there is no better way to see the animals and countryside than to drift over the plains in a hot air balloon at dawn, culminating in a champagne breakfast.  Other activities include bird watching walks, masai dancing and wildlife lectures.

For those wishing to fly into Keekorok, an excellent light aircraft service operates between Nairobi, Mombasa and Keekorok.

Reviews & Testimonials of Keekorok Lodge

"Simply the best"

If you are visiting the Masai Mara then this is the place to stay!! Everything about Keekorok is fantastic, the grounds, the food, the staff (so friendly and always smiling) the swimming pool, the rooms and of course the hippo pool.

We asked to change rooms with a better view of the open park land, we had moved into our new room within minutes!! Outside our window were hippo, waterbuck and zebra grazing, when the guard came to walk us to the main building for dinner he shone his torch straight into the eyes of a hyena who was sitting just outside the lodge boundry!

On our last morning we were woken by lions roaring, they sounded terribly close!!
We have stayed at several lodges in Kenya all of which have been very good but Keekorok has got something speical and magical about it, we will return!!

"The Best"

eekorok was simply superb. The location right in the centre of the Mara is too good. Food and service is excellent. We had hippos grazing outside our rooms at night - its so close to nature. Had a great time here.
