Location: Lake Naivasha
Hippo Point House is a surreal yet beautiful sanctuary, a magical establishment set in the equally magical surrounds of Lake Naivasha. Harnessing the by-gone elegance of British colonialism, adding lashings of luxury and a unique touch of its own, Hippo Point in the ultimate place to spot game, drink in the lush scenery and truly escape real life. The main accommodation is set in the house itself – a mock Tudor building originally built in the 1930s and lovingly restored and renovated in 1998. The house boasts seven double bedrooms, a secluded swimming pool and a gazebo where guests can enjoy spa treatments. Just beyond the borders of the traditional English garden, with scented roses and green lawns, are rugged acacia trees where you might spot one of the resident buffalo, giraffe, hippo, gazelle or zebra. Here, you will enjoy quintessentially African rugged beauty from the comfort of linen sheets, polished floors and deep, wooden bathtubs.
Nearby, The Tower is one of Kenya's best-kept secrets. This tall, needle-like construction lends a fairy-tale like feel to any stay at Hippo Point, with nine stories of unbridled luxury. The Tower affords breath-taking views over the Oloidien Valley. Guests can enjoy the sounds of gentle splashing as hippos venture from the water under cover of darkness, and lucky guests may even spot a night-walking hippo from the tower's fantastic aerial view. Breakfast here is served outside, whilst dinner is served by candlelight. There are four double rooms available in the tower, at varying stories.
Dining at Hippo House is an experience like no other. Vegetables are grown in Hippo Point's own organic garden, and seafood and meat are sourced directly from the Indian Ocean and local farms respectively. There are a variety of inspiring and exciting dining options on offer here, including lakeside barbecues under the moonlight, silver service candle-lit dinners, extensive breakfasts under the acacia canopy, poolside buffets, lakeside sundowners and English-style afternoon teas on the tower veranda.
Activities at Hippo Point range from the exciting to the indulgent. Day safaris at Lake Nakuru, Elementaita, Crater Lake and of course Naivasha are all on offer, along with hiking at Hell's Gate or even a hot air balloon safari. Bird lovers will adore Hippo Point, with hundreds of beautiful and unusual African birds resident in the area. After a long, active day, guests can enjoy facials, massages and even yoga sessions.
