Location: Masai Mara
Perching on the banks of the utterly amazing Mara River, twisting through the riverine forest of the Masai Mara and bursting with wildlife and birds, lies The Governor's Camp. The Camp comprises of 37 beautiful tents, some of which line the banks of the river and offer direct views onto the waters, others offering uninterrupted views across the Mara plains. With such traditional elegance in such lush, verdant and stunning surroundings, it's little wonder this camp comes so highly recommended by it's many patrons. The tents are extremely spacious, each featuring en suite bathroom facilities (shower, basin, flush toilet, bidet and running water) and a large private veranda. The décor is traditional safari style, with light beiges and neutral tones complementing the dark hardwood furniture. Paraffin and gas lamps are used for an authentic and romantic feel.
Dining at the camp takes place in the open bar and dining tent, with a view over the Mara River and the stunning, endless Mara plains, and a large camp-fire crackling outside. Room service is available on request, with tea and coffee being served in the tent every morning as standard. Breakfast, lunch and dinner can all be arranged in the bush at varying scenic points.
Due to the camp's location in the heart of the Masai Mara, the game viewing here is rarely rivalled. Here, you can take an early, mid-morning or afternoon game drive with experienced driver guides. You could even take one of the daily walking safaris in a nearby private concession, and if it's a special occasion, combine it with a champagne breakfast or bush sundowner with canapés. You could even make an excursion to a local Masai village or school.
